Saturday November 9, the third edition of the national festival of Green Walkorganized by the Municipal Council of Mahbes in the presence of two Secretaries of State, Lahcen Saâdi, in charge of Crafts, Social and Solidarity Economy, and Adib Benbrahim, in charge of Housing.
It’s time to celebrate under a huge and sumptuous marquee set up for the occasion. Celebrations that the separatists, from Algerian territory, wanted to spoil in the most despicable way.
According to various sources relayed by social networks, at least four projectiles were fired from as many military vehicles. After a few seconds of astonishment, the hundreds of people invited to these celebrations responded by chanting nationalist slogans to the glory of the Kingdom, the King and the Sahara.
No material or human damage has been reported, as confirmed by several sources in the southern provinces.
During this time, the FAR had deployed drones which succeeded, in a short time, in neutralizing the attackers. This is confirmed by the very well-informed “Moroccan Military Forum” on its X account. But without giving details on the number of victims on the separatist side.
On social networks, the separatists mourn their dead (the attackers) and there are at least five of them, including a senior military executive, the man named Abdelaziz Ould Bariya.
Silence in Rabat, fake news in Rabouni
In Morocco, no official communication has been made on the events in Mahbes, except to report on the activities of the two government officials in the province of Assa-Zag and the large investments made for economic and social development. of these regions just a bird’s flight from Tindouf.
In Rabouni, the Polisario is sinking into denial and fake news. Hardly affected by his losses following his initiative with poorly calculated consequences, he had his “press agency” (SPS) say that two attacks had been carried out against the Moroccan army, one at dawn and the second in early in the afternoon, causing it to suffer heavy losses.
This recalls all the lies served by the separatists to the populations martyred in Tindouf and which only find takers among the media affiliated with the Algerian military regime.
What is established for the moment, and since the start of the violation of the ceasefire by the separatists, is that this is the second terrorist attack of its kind after those in Smara, at the end of October 2023. The Polisario is also increasing its rocket fire which is documented by Minurso despite the obstacles that this mission encounters on the Polisario side:
“Between September 1, 2023 and August 31, 2024, the Royal Moroccan Army reported to MINURSO 164 incidents involving shootings against its units stationed along or near the sand wall, approximately 75% of which were in Mahbas.
“Since September 2023, MINURSO has carried out 127 investigative patrols to visit the locations where reported incidents occurred (total of 357 sites). On 14 occasions, the Royal Moroccan Army also reported observing small surveillance drones fly over its units in the Oum Dreyga region,” reads the latest report from the UN Secretary General to the Security Council.
Morocco regains control
Which is significantly less than the 550 shots separatists identified by the UN mission between September 1, 2022 and August 31, 2023. And still far from the results established between September 1, 2021 and August 31, 2022 with 691 shots reported by the FAR to Minurso.
What interpretation could we make of the drastic reduction in Polisario attacks against the Royal Armed Forces? One of the most logical is that Morocco acts with the greatest firmness with the skirmishes of the separatists as it had expressed, at the highest level of the State, to the UN SG. Namely that he respected the ceasefire, but that he was determined to defend himself, his territory and his citizens.
