Lthe most unpopular tax in Belgium should experience, at least, a big facelift under the MR-Engagés mandate which is coming in Wallonia. We are talking about inheritance taxes paid by the heirs or legatees of a deceased person. In some cases, they can amount to 80% of the value of the property.
This enormous rate has not changed since… 1936. “It was set so that the richest of the rich would pay the equivalent of a wealth tax,” explains tax expert Typhanie Afschrift. “Except that today, 500,000 euros is the value of a house. We can really talk about an unfair tax. »
