On October 29, a deluge of water fell on the province of Valencia. In three hours and twenty minutes, more rain fell than in the last 21 months. 79 municipalities were affected. Since then, a battered Spain has been taking stock. The human toll is 223 dead and 78 missing according to figures transmitted on Friday November 8 by the Minister of Transport. A state of natural disaster was declared and the Spanish government released 10.6 billion euros, part of which was paid by the European Union.

Each disaster victim should receive 20,000 to 60,000 euros and up to 10,000 to buy back lost property. 840 million euros could be released to compensate 30,000 companies and 65,000 entrepreneurs. Nearly 140,000 claims for compensation have been filed. The total cost of getting the province back on its feet still remains incalculable.
