Rabat – The levels of gross commercial margins generated in the 2nd quarter of 2024 by the nine wholesale diesel and gasoline distribution companies concerned by the Competition Council’s reporting are relatively below the averages recorded in Q1-2024.
“Operators achieved gross margins of nearly 1.21 DH/L for diesel and 1.79 DH/L for gasoline in this 2nd quarter of 2024. These levels remain relatively below the averages observed in the first quarter of the year, which amounted to 1.46 DH/L for diesel and 2.07 DH/L for gasoline, a difference of 25 cents and 28 cents respectively,” indicates the Competition Council in its report relating to the monitoring of commitments made by wholesale diesel and gasoline distribution companies within the framework of transactional agreements concluded with the Council.
According to the same source, the margins analyzed represent gross commercial margins on transfer prices, weighted by the market shares of diesel and gasoline distribution of the nine companies concerned.
Thus, the report reveals that the weighted average gross margins for Q2-2024, generated on the sale of diesel, fluctuate between a minimum of 1.05 DH/L and a maximum of 1.34 DH/L.
As for gasoline, gross margin levels remain relatively high at nearly 0.58 DH/L compared to those of diesel and varied between a minimum of 1.54 DH/L and a maximum of 2.01 DH/L /L.
In detail, the Competition Council notes that the evolution of average gross margins on the market recorded two distinct periods, both for diesel and for gasoline.
A first period from the first half of April to the end of May, characterized by a downward trend in gross margin levels (apart from the increase recorded in the second half of April), going from 1.2 DH/L to 1, 05 DH/L for diesel (difference of 0.15 DH/L) and from 2.01 DH/L to 1.54 DH/L for gasoline (difference of 0.47 DH/L).
The second period covers, for its part, the rest of the fortnights of the 2nd quarter of 2024, where gross margins are on an upward trajectory, going from 1.05 DH/L to 1.24 DH/L for diesel, i.e. an increase of 19 cents, and from 1.54 DH/L to 1.81 DH/L for gasoline, an increase of 27 cents.
Please remember that the distribution of this third reporting is part of the monitoring of the execution of the commitments made by nine companies active in the diesel and gasoline market, concerned by the transaction agreements concluded with the Council of the competition.
The commitments indicated in the decisions relating to these transaction agreements are seven in number, including in particular the one covered in this report, which consists of the communication, by each of the companies concerned, of a quarterly report allowing the monitoring of the activity supply, storage and distribution of diesel and gasoline.
