Stellantis is renewing its recall campaign to owners of Citroën C3 and DS3 so that they have their Takata airbag checked and replaced, the cause of several accidents including possibly a fatal one in Reunion.
As the southern summer begins, Stellantis Maroc is once again relaunching its recall campaign for vehicles equipped with the infamous Takata airbags, implicated in several accidents following untimely activation.
As some of its chemical components prove to deteriorate over time and under the effect of heat and humidity conditions, the manufacturer has had to launch a recall campaign for several vehicle models from the Citroën and DS brands since 2021, so that explosions with the projection of metal parts were observed.
Or, “despite significant progress in the campaign (nearly 84% of vehicles treated), some drivers have not yet taken this step”alerts Stellantis, which encourages these owners “to check their vehicle then contact CFAO Motors for Citroën and LOGICARE for DS”the dealers of these brands in Reunion.
The models targeted are Citroën C3 and DS3, produced between 2009 and 2019.
“This Takata airbag recall campaign, underway in all overseas departments, is crucial to ensure the safety of drivers in these regions, and we want to raise awareness among as many people as possible.” insists the communications company mandated by Stellantis Morocco.
To check if their vehicle falls into the targeted categories, owners must go to the sites https://www.dsautomobiles.fr/votreds/votreds-et-vous/campagne-de-rappel.html and https://www .citroen-campagne-de-rappel.re/ by entering their serial number, before contacting the dealer.
The intervention is “fast, free and lasting less than two hours”recalls Stellantis.
A new recall which comes as the manufacturer has been questioned for its late consideration of the potential dangerousness of these Japanese-made airbags, the cause of several accidents.
In Reunion, they could be particularly involved in the death of a 39-year-old mother, whose airbag was triggered for no apparent reason in La Saline-les-Bains in September 2021. An investigation is still underway since this tragedy.
