The Minister of Industry expects new announcements of site closures

Industry Minister Marc Ferracci expects new announcements of industrial site closures in France “in the coming weeks and months”which will affect “thousands of jobs”after the announcements of closures of two sites at Michelin this week.

“There will probably be announcements of site closures in the coming weeks and months”declared Marc Ferracci at the microphone of France Inter on Saturday November 9, estimating that the social balance sheet “will be counted in thousands of jobs”.

“It is true that a certain number of sectors are in worrying situations”added the minister, citing chemistry, metallurgy and the automobile industry. Earlier this week, Michelin announced the upcoming closure of two sites in France. Coming to meet the employees of the Cholet factory this Friday, November 8, Marc Ferracci was verbally attacked by angry employees. “I expected there to be this type of reaction since the employees are upset and we can understand it because the way the announcement was made was not a dignified manner,” added the minister, regretting that Michelin management did not come to meet the employees on the sites concerned.
