The minister stressed the importance of putting an end to the “tragedy that began on October 7”, while assuring that “France will continue to do everything in its power” to support the families of the hostages, having already met the families of the two French hostages still detained. The Quai d’Orsay specified that this visit aims to strengthen dialogue with Israel regarding Gaza, Lebanon and the situation in the Middle East. The minister also plans to support the Palestinian Authority for a two-state solution. The trip also explores security and diplomatic solutions for Lebanon after a conference held in Paris.
Since the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, Israel has continued its offensives on Gaza, causing the deaths of more than 43,000 people, mainly women and children. Severe shortages of food and water are being reported amid the blockade. At the same time, Israel is carrying out airstrikes in Lebanon, causing numerous displacements and human losses.
