According to Luc Langevin, who on Tuesday was in his first vote among our southern neighbors, the 47th American president will not put into effect all of the promises he kept during the campaign, as many fear.
“There is unfortunately a lot of theater in there,” he explains, while affirming that his friends in Quebec talk to him more about Donald Trump’s comments than the Americans he meets daily. “Don’t worry! He will not build a wall in 24 hours, it’s impossible,” Mr. Langevin adds jokingly.
The Florida resident does not expect “dramatic” measures as soon as the Republican arrives at the White House, but above all to see economic announcements such as tax cuts.
“What Trump wants is to return this money to the pockets of taxpayers who will continue to reactivate the economy,” he said.
Asked what he likes about the president-elect, Luc Langevin points to the man’s business success, but also wants to highlight the cultural differences between Americans and Quebecers.
“Success in the United States is very important,” recalls Mr. Langevin. People who succeed in Canada, in Quebec, are unfortunately criticized, but in the United States, they are idolized.
Many Americans are choosing to overlook Trump’s antics because they believe he is best placed to lead the country in the current economic situation.
This is also the case of the Quebecer, who specifies that he voted for the Republican Party and not for its candidate.
