Born in South Korea, this feminist movement wants to renounce men to prevent discrimination and sexist violence. If this trend remains marginal, it interests many American women after the election of Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States.
A growing concern. After Donald Trump's large victory in the presidential election in the United States, many Americans fear for their rights. During this election, however, women mainly turned towards the Democratic camp, with 54% for Kamala Harris. But this was not enough, particularly in the face of the male electorate who mainly lined up behind Donald Trump (54%).
For many voters, this result is a call for a new form of protest. On social networks, some called to join “4b”, a feminist movement born in South Korea. This phenomenon, which remains marginal for the moment, advocates a life without men to avoid discrimination and sexist violence, explains The Parisian. The abbreviation “4b” comes from four words that all start with “bi”, which means “no” in Korean. There is “Bihon” and “Bisekseu”, which designate the refusal of marriage and heterosexual relationships. “Biyeonae” means a refusal of the search for a romantic partner, and finally, “buchulsan”, the refusal of reproductive duty, details the magazine Elle.
Korean women adopting this movement also reject the physical codes imposed by society, refusing to wear makeup or wear long hair. Some American women therefore did not hesitate to film themselves cutting their hair while indicating that they wanted to follow the “4b” movement.
For other women, this movement is summed up as “a world without men” and should help reduce the number of births in the United States. “Ladies, we need to start looking at the 4b movement like women in South Korea and giving America a drastic drop in the birth rate”writes a user of the social network
A way to regain control over this very sensitive issue in the United States. Two years ago, the United States Supreme Court revoked Roe v. Wade, which had guaranteed the constitutional right to abortion since 1973. Each State has become free to prohibit voluntary termination of pregnancy (abortion) or to tighten the conditions. Referendums took place on Tuesday, in parallel with the presidential election, on the right to abortion in ten states. For the American presidential election, 20% of women made the right to abortion their main concern in this election, compared to 8% of men, according to an NBC News poll.
