Morocco guest of honor at the Sharjah International Book Fair in the United Arab Emirates

Morocco’s participation in the 43rd edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair as guest of honor reflects the depth of the relations of excellence between the Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates, in their human dimensions, solidarity and development , said Ms. Latifa Moftaqir, Director of Archives of Morocco and general delegate of Morocco to this Show.

The fraternal and historical relations uniting the two countries are based on the depth of the solid ties established by the late HM Hassan II and the late Sheikh Zayed Ben Sultan Al Nahyan, underlined Ms. Moftaqir in a statement to MAP on the occasion of the opening on Wednesday of the Salon, noting that these links continue to be developed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Ben Zayed Al Nahyan.

Morocco’s participation in this event also embodies the joint cultural action of Morocco and the Emirate of Sharjah, which now enjoys a prominent place in the Moroccan cultural landscape, particularly after the establishment of cultural structures as fruit of the ongoing cooperation between the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Communication and the Department of Culture in the Government of Sharjah.

In this regard, she highlighted the creation of the House of Poetry in Tetouan, which organizes a Poetry Festival every year, as well as the House of Poetry in Marrakech which organizes the annual Moroccan Poetry Festival.

The cultural bridges between the two sister countries will always be dynamic in both directions, so that new forms and renewed activities relating to cultural and artistic action are innovated, she continued.

Regarding Morocco’s participation in the Sharjah International Book Fair, Ms. Moftaqir indicated that a program was set up with the various cultural and artistic actors embodying the diversity of the cultural landscape of the Kingdom, both at the level of the Pavilion Morocco, as well as at the level of conferences and meetings in which more than forty eminent Moroccan personalities will take part, including philosophers, intellectuals, poets and writers.

In addition, traveling festivities will be organized extramural, in the fields of theater, cinema and music, she added, noting that visitors to the Sharjah Fair will also have the opportunity to taste some culinary specialties Moroccan cuisine in a dedicated catering area.

Workshops will also be organized for the benefit of young people to allow them to discover certain areas of Moroccan crafts, such as pottery, ornamentation and textiles, as well as the art of traditional storytelling, said Ms. Moftaqir.

Mounted at the Sharjah Expo Center over an area of ​​approximately 190 m2, the Moroccan pavilion highlights the various aspects of Moroccan culture, celebrating its rich heritage and the works of its writers and thinkers. It offers visitors the opportunity to discover the rich history and diverse civilizational heritage of the Kingdom of Morocco.

Placed under the theme “The Morocco of cultures in Sharjah of books”, the Moroccan pavilion offers a rich cultural program with no less than 107 events bringing together around a hundred writers, authors and publishers and covering various cultural and artistic fields and literary, in addition to a series of sessions dedicated to the discovery of Moroccan cuisine.
