The 25-year-old forward, who spent the off-season wondering whether he would be traded to another National Hockey League (NHL) team before signing a two-year pact to stay in Carolina, has already scored seven goals and 20 points… in just 11 games.
His point average per game (1.82) places him second in the entire circuit behind Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche (1.92).
Necas stood out again on Tuesday night, scoring the winning goal with a little over 30 seconds left against the Philadelphia Flyers. Well positioned in the dangerous zone, he recovered a loose puck to beat the opposing goalie and break the 4-4 tie.
“I was burned, but luckily the puck went into the net. Good teams find a way to win. That’s what we did today (Tuesday),” Necas told the media after the last-minute victory against the Flyers.
The Czech native is currently riding a seven-game point streak, tied for the longest of his career.
If he keeps up the pace, he’ll have no trouble surpassing his career-best single-season haul. During the 2022-2023 season, he finished the campaign with 71 points in 82 games.
