Rabat – Eighteen people died and 2,583 others were injured, including 111 seriously, in 2,006 traffic accidents that occurred in urban areas during the week from October 28 to November 3, according to statistics from the General Directorate of National Security ( DGSN).
These accidents are mainly due to the inadvertence of drivers, failure to respect the right of way, excessive speed, the inadvertence of pedestrians, failure to respect the safety distance, lack of control of vehicles, changing direction without using a signal, failing to respect the red light, driving in the wrong direction, driving while intoxicated and faulty overtaking, the DGSN said in a press release.
Concerning the control and repression of traffic offenses, the security services established 46,102 tickets and drew up 8,228 reports submitted to the public prosecutor’s office, while 37,874 transactional fines were paid, added the same source.
The sums collected for these fines reached 8,383,325 dirhams, underlined the same source, reporting the impoundment of 4,292 vehicles and the immobilization of 280 vehicles.
