Cairo – The official inauguration ceremony of the Moroccan pavilion at the 12th World Urban Forum was organized on Tuesday in Cairo, in the presence of several guests from various backgrounds.
This ceremony was chaired by the Secretary of State to the Minister of National Territorial Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and City Policy, in charge of Housing, Adib Benbrahim, in presence of the Moroccan ambassador to Egypt, Mohamed Ait Ouali and members of the Moroccan delegation participating in this event, as well as several guests at this global conclave organized until November 8 at the initiative of the United Nations Program for human settlements (UN-Habitat).
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Benbrahim affirmed that Morocco’s participation in the 12th World Urban Forum, as well as in previous editions, demonstrates the importance that the Kingdom attaches to “this event and its desire to strengthen the partnership with the system United Nations and UN-Habitat”.
This Forum “constitutes an important platform to reflect together on the challenges and opportunities facing our cities, in addition to being a unique opportunity to communicate and exchange experiences,” he added.
Through multi-party cooperation, “we can develop innovative solutions that meet the specific needs of our societies,” he noted, recalling that Morocco is participating in this edition with a rich and varied scientific program.
The Moroccan pavilion at the Forum hosts debates focused on current issues relating to urban development, including urbanization, sustainability, urban rehabilitation and renewal, financing, climate change challenges, disaster resilience natural resources, sustainable water management, local innovation and digitalization, among others.
These questions are priorities for the Kingdom, which is committed, under the Wise Conduct of HM King Mohammed VI, to making sustainable development an integrated social project, said Mr. Benbrahim, noting that these themes reflect the importance given to Morocco to “strengthen local initiatives aimed at reducing inequalities and territorial disparities”.
The Kingdom of Morocco is taking part in this Forum with a delegation made up of representatives of several ministries, public institutions and elected authorities, in particular the ministries of National Territorial Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and Sustainable Development Policy. the City, Interior, Economy and Finance, the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion, the Al Omrane Group and urban agencies.
Placed under the theme “It all starts at home: local actions for sustainable cities and communities”, the World Urban Forum represents the second largest event organized by the United Nations after the climate conferences, due to the numerous activities and events that address various themes related to sustainable and inclusive urban development.
Forum participants discuss several issues, including the global housing crisis, adaptation to climate change, sustainable financing, partnerships for local action and the role of technological innovation in transformation of the future of cities.
