Whatever happens, Donald Trump will be tempted to proclaim himself the winner

Published on November 4, 2024 at 9:09 p.m. / Modified on November 5, 2024 at 10:19.

  • Donald Trump is laying the groundwork to contest the election should he lose to Kamala Harris.

  • Election officials face a deluge of misinformation.

  • But this time the Republican candidate will not be able to use the surprise effect.

It passed 2 a.m. on the night of November 3 to 4, 2020, a few hours after the closing of the last polling stations across the United States. President Donald Trump addresses the nation from the White House. “The Democrats can’t catch up with us anymore […]. Frankly, we won this election,” claims the president, even though the ballots have not finished being counted and the difference is too small in several pivotal states to determine who will be the next president.

Four years later, this cycle of lies which culminated in the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, while elected representatives of Congress were preparing to certify Joe Biden’s victory, haunts the United States. Donald Trump has already announced that he plans to claim victory even earlier on election night than 4 years ago.

attack on the Capitol

Violent intrusion occurred on January 6, 2021 during which supporters of Donald Trump invaded the American Congress, which was to certify the victory of Democrat Joe Biden as president of the United States. Described as an insurrection, a coup d’état, and even a putsch, this event, which resulted in the death of five people, marks a key moment in American history. More than a thousand individuals were charged, and some sentenced to prison terms.
