The National Commission of Internal and Resident Physicians has decided to raise its voice by announcing a new national strike, scheduled for Tuesday November 5 and Thursday November 7. This action aims to protest against “ the stubbornness of the ministries concerned and their insistence on ignoring just and legitimate demands« .
In a press release full of indignation, internal doctors and residents strongly denounce what they describe as blatant contempt on the part of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Higher Education. These two institutions, according to them, are adopting unsustainable crisis management, leading the health sector to a critical situation.
The doctors emphasize that their decision to increase the number of strikes is the result of an exhaustion of dialogue approaches. Despite an official letter sent to the new minister on October 28 – which remained unanswered – interns and residents perceive this lack of reaction as a symbol of “ contempt and denial » recognition of their essential role in the national health system.
The Commission criticizes behavior that it describes as obstinate and deliberate, violating the fundamental rights of these professionals. She recalls that internal and resident doctors, pharmacists and dentists bear heavy workloads and ensure, very often to the detriment of their working conditions, the continuity of care for citizens.
She also warns of the consequences of this inaction. According to her, the persistence of this attitude endangers the future of the health system, threatening to degrade both the working conditions of professionals and the quality of care provided.
Finally, internists and residents insist that the strike is not their preferred choice. However, they say they are forced to resort to this escalation in the face of what they consider to be a policy of inaction by the authorities. They are asking in particular for an increase in compensation and an improvement in the quality of their training, demands that they consider legitimate for a sector as vital as health.
