A solar coronagraph soon to be sent to the ISS by the South Korean and American space agencies

A collaboration between KASA and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Coronal Diagnostic Experiment (CODEX) will be sent to the ISS aboard a Falcon 9 launcher next Monday (US time) from the center spacecraft, according to KASA, relayed by the Korean News Agency.

As part of a bilateral solar research project, the coronagraph will be positioned on the ExPRESS palette (ELC3-3) of the ISS to observe the solar corona for a period of up to 55 minutes at each revolution of the Earth of 90 minutes.

The world’s first coronagraph designed to measure the temperature and speed of solar winds in addition to their density, CODEX will help researchers better understand the phenomenon of solar winds and improve space weather forecasts, KASA said.
