The high hierarchy of the police carried out a rapid reorganization, dismissing from their posts the commissioners of Koungheul and Kaffrine for serious failings in the management of public security, after the attack on the Prime Minister’s convoy in the countryside in the region.
A note from the senior police hierarchy was released. Forty-eight hours after the attack on the convoy of Ousmane Sonko, Prime Minister of Senegal and head of Pastef’s list for the early legislative elections on November 17, several officials were dismissed from the police. The attack, which left several injured, including Malick Gakou, leader of the Grand Party, led to the dismissal of commissioner Ousmane Seydi, in charge of the Koungheul police station, as well as his colleague Balla Fall, head of the Kaffrine police station.

The senior hierarchy recorded the transfer of the Koungheul commissioner to the position of deputy central commissioner in Thiès. As for Balla Fall, former head of the Kaffrine police, he is now called upon to join the office of the Director of Public Security (DSP) in Dakar. To replace the sanctioned commissioners, Commissioner Ibrahima Diouf, previously in Tivaouane, is appointed to the central police station of Kaffrine, while Bassirou Ndiaye, former commissioner of Pikine (Saint-Louis), is assigned to Koungheul.
This double mutation has provoked speculation, but L’Observateur specifies that these are indeed sanctions. “A note relieved the two commissioners of their duties, a sanction taken following the incidents in Koungheul and the security breaches,” confide our interlocutors. Although the Prime Minister is on a political campaign under the banner of Pastef, he remains an institutional figure, justifying reinforced security. “When deficiencies are identified, the hierarchy is responsible for correcting and sanctioning, and this is what was done,” the sources conclude.
