On Halloween night, Thursday, October 31, American Airlines Flight 954 takes off at 9:30 p.m. from Ezeiza Airport in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Direction New York. A few hours later, the plane returned to Buenos Aires. On board, passengers and crew are terrified: strange noises are escaping from the hold, as if someone was tapping with a heavy object to get out of the plane…

The affair caused a stir in Argentina. Because after landing, the plane was thoroughly inspected by the police and a special platoon from the Argentine army, specializing in hostage-taking and terrorist attacks. After a thorough search of the plane, the flight was definitively canceled but no stowaways were found.

Sounds of blows

But what happened on board the plane that the Argentine press calls “the haunted flight”? While the plane took off, the flight attendants were quickly alerted by passengers who heard the sound of knocks apparently coming from the baggage hold. “It’s as if someone wanted to signal their presence,” testified a passenger, who filmed the scene.

The noises worried the pilot enough for him to alert the air authorities. It must be said that the noise is getting louder and louder, as if someone was hitting with a heavy object to get out. However, no shouting. But it doesn't seem to be a mechanical problem. Passengers who shared their videos taken during the flight describe irregular and “scared” knocks.

A ghost passenger?

After negotiations with the Buenos Aires airport control tower, the plane landed urgently and was immediately taken care of by the police. Worried passengers had to stay in their seats for several hours in the middle of the night.

The “ghost” stowaway has not been found but the incident is no laughing matter in Argentina. For several weeks, incidents have been increasing on the line between Buenos Aires and New York, with technical incidents, cancellations and significant delays.
