The Sûreté du Québec confirms the death of a 20-year-old young woman, resident of the Innu community in Uashat, in the accident that occurred early this Saturday morning on Route 138 near the Sept-Îles airport. A family support walk is being organized at 6 p.m. in front of the Manikanetish school.

SQ spokesperson Camille Savoie specifies that the death was noted at the scene of the accident. Remember that the police received the call at 5:15 a.m.

The two other people who were in the SUV which left the road were transferred to Sept-Îles Hospital for serious injuries. We do not fear for their lives.

Charges will likely be laid in Youth Court against the 16-year-old driver, who did not have a valid driver’s license. According to the SQ, the deceased passenger who was sitting in the back of the vehicle was not wearing a seat belt.

Route 138 is closed near the Sept-Îles airport. Cars can make a detour in the Beaches sector on rue de la Rive and Côte du Relais at Plage Lévesque.

An investigating police officer and a collision scene specialist are trying to determine the exact causes of the accident.
