The Salvation Army opened an independent contact point on Friday for people who have been placed in its children’s homes. Former residents can contact us if they feel that their physical, psychological or sexual integrity has been affected.
The platform “Anlaufstelle-Heimkinder.ch” is managed by the Guido Fluri Foundation. It offers advice and assistance with requests for compensation, the foundation and the Salvation Army said on Friday.
Salvation Army homes have welcomed children for over 100 years, particularly in the context of forced placements.
The institution is aware of abuses that have taken place within it but does not know how many residents could be affected.
The Salvation Army now wants to update all cases of attacks on physical, psychological and sexual integrity, as Philipp Hadorn, external member of its foundation council, explains in Saturday’s 12:30 p.m. “We want to know, to update everything ruthlessly, that’s our motto! We must be accountable for our actions. We want to assume our responsibility: to listen to people and recognize their suffering, We really want to take this seriously and make this visible and honestly, there can still be abuses today, despite all the norms and standards.”
Zero tolerance
The Salvation Army’s goal is to identify all cases of potential abuse in its homes. It intends to apply zero tolerance to abuse. Reparations could range from a letter of apology to a financial solidarity contribution. The people who will be entitled to it will be those who were minors and vulnerable at the time of the events.
This contact point works independently and does not receive money from the Salvation Army.
