John Snow, Arya Stark and the Lannister conspirators are set to hit the big screen as a film based on the hit series “Game of Thrones” is in the early stages of development, US media reported on Thursday. No star has yet been identified for this project.
An iconic HBO series, “Game of Thrones” became a global cultural phenomenon for eight seasons, garnering considerable audiences between 2011 and 2019, as well as a record 59 Emmy Awards.
Taken from the saga of fantasy novels “Game of Thrones” by George RR Martin, the series and its medieval struggles have already inspired a spin-off, “House of the Dragon”. Other adaptations for the small screen are also in preparation.
“Preliminary discussions”
Warner Bros had until now refused to adapt the franchise for the cinema, even if the novelist and the screenwriters of the series have already discussed potential feature films around the universe of Westeros.
The studio, however, seems to have changed its mind. According to the Hollywood Reporter, he is “quietly developing at least one movie” related to “Game of Thrones.” According to this specialized media, the recent management changes within Warner could have changed the situation.
Recent television adaptations of film franchises “The Batman,” “Dune” and the upcoming “Harry Potter” series demonstrate that the studio can have it both ways.
According to Deadline, there have only been “preliminary discussions” about a “Game of Thrones” movie. No star has yet been identified for this project. Asked by AFP, Warner Bros responded that it had “no comment to make”.
