The Municipality of Yverdon is in shock. Its senior official, the socialist Jean-Claude Ruchet, has died. “Our sadness is immense,” reacts trustee Pierre Dessemontet. It is even more so because if we knew that our colleague had been suffering from health problems for several years, he had been doing better recently and the path he was on was more of a return to normal. .”

Aged 58, Jean-Claude Ruchet was a figure of the PS in the North of Vaud. In 2001, he became president of the Municipal Council. Eight years later, his accession to the Municipality during a complementary election allowed the Left to regain the majority in the Executive.

Reserved, even modest, Jean-Claude Ruchet had a deep social fiber. For his party colleagues he was “a quiet force who knew how to come to life to defend the little people and the most precarious people”.
