Apple launches a new iMac with M4 chip, better equipped and less expensive

Apple had promised a week of announcements, here is the first salvo with a brand new iMac! The all-in-one retains its design, its 24-inch screen and spring colors (there's something new!), while integrating an M4 chip.

History will perhaps remember that theiMac was the first Mac to integrate an M4 chip! Apple's all-in-one computer therefore features the new chip inaugurated with the iPad Pro in the spring. Two models are offered: 8-core CPU (4 efficient cores and 4 efficient cores) and 8-core GPU; 10-core CPU (4 + 6) and 10-core GPU.

Optional nano-textured screen

With macOS Sequoia 15.1, available for a few minutes, the iMac is therefore cut out for Apple Intelligence, even if in fact all you need is a computer with an M1 chip to take advantage of it. The 16-core Neural Engine does not change.

On the other hand, the new iMac benefits from 16 GB of memory by default, double that of the previous generation. And you can go up to 32 GB as an option (it was 24 GB maximum before). The memory is also faster, with a bandwidth of 120 GB/s instead of 100 GB/s.

Another change on the list of technical characteristics: the FaceTime camera is a 12 MP sensor with centered frame (video recording remains in 1080p). Unsurprisingly, the diagonal of the screen remains at 24.5 inches and 4.5K (4,480 x 2,520), the brightness also remains at 500 nits. What's new here is the nano-textured option at €230 (against reflections)… which comes with a cloth graciously provided!

Apple maintains the range of 7 colors, with some subtle variations: silver, green, yellow, orange, pink, mauve and blue. Good surprise, prices start at €1,499 (€100 less!) for the basic version (4 + 4 CPU, 8-core GPU) with 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of memory, but you will have to deal with the block charger without Ethernet port. We go up to €2,209 for the high-end model with 5 + 5 CPU, 10-core GPU, 24 GB of memory and 512 GB of storage. Not counting the options behind.

Pre-orders start today, the first deliveries will take place on November 8.
