Stéphanie Lammar, president of TPG: “There will be 30% more supply over the next five years” – rts.ch

Geneva Public Transport will expand its offering in the coming years. President of the TPG Board of Directors since this spring, Stéphanie Lammar takes stock in La Matinale of the developments planned between 2025 and 2029.

TPG transport 200 million passengers per year. And the canton of Geneva is thinking big. The Council of State wants to invest two billion francs over the next few years in buses and trams. His plan will be submitted to the Grand Council this week.

“There will be 30% more supply over the next five years,” explains Stéphanie Lammar, who is also the socialist mayor of Carouge.

Going all-electric

The five-year performance mandate, which describes the mission and strategy of TPG, includes electrifying the fleet by 2030. “This will improve air quality, reduce noise pollution and “mitigate the impact on the urban landscape,” she notes. The TPG and the State of Geneva also wish to develop leisure travel, that is to say outside peak hours, in the evening, at night and on weekends.

Stéphanie Lammar notes that improved travel is essential at the end of the lake. “As in other cities in Switzerland or Europe, mobility is a major problem in Geneva. The development of public transport is one of the most appropriate responses to this problem,” she argues. The president of TPG finally assures that no price increase is planned.

Strong interest in the driving profession

With a view to increasing their activities, the TPG have launched a massive recruitment campaign. The agency usually hires around a hundred drivers per year. But she doubled this figure in 2024. A sign of strong interest, more than 4,400 people sent an application, indicates Stéphanie Lammar.

“We have managed to attract people looking for both certified training and a rewarding profession,” she says with satisfaction. “The flexibility linked to the profession of driver has certainly appealed. We have also worked quite a bit with the Cantonal Employment Office of the State of Geneva, from which a third of the commitments made come,” he explains. -She.
