Guest of the TF1 morning show, Tuesday October 22, the Minister of the Economy, Antoine Armand, detailed the efforts that will be asked of the French as part of the 2025 budget.

Discussions around the 2025 budget of Michel Barnier’s government began in the National Assembly on Monday October 21. The government plans several measures to achieve 60 billion euros in savings. Among them, a reduction in aid for the purchase of electric cars, the car penalty, and the increase in taxation on the electricity tax. Many French people should be affected, from all walks of life, raising fears of a fiscal crisis. “The bill [d’électricité] of the French, for 80% of them, will decrease”assured the Minister of the Economy, Finance and Industry, guest of TF1, Tuesday October 22.

“A budget to avoid austerity”

Antoine Armand added that working French people will not be taxed more. “We are indexing the income tax scale, so that income tax is not more important for our compatriots”he developed. On the business side, “we do not touch VSEs, SMEs which hire, which employ, which work”indicated the minister who wants to produce more. Antoine Armand recalled the need for these efforts, while France has 3,000 billion in debt, with a deficit that exceeds 6% of GDP.

Finally, he refused to propose an austerity budget. “Austerity is in Latvia, reducing the salaries of civil servants by 25% (…) What we are doing is a budget to avoid austerity, to avoid that one day, our European partners, the markets tell us ‘this is no longer possible, we must cut’“, he concluded.
