Meeting to raise awareness of learning disabilities in children

The Edyslexia Connect team, having benefited from the “Leadership Lab” training provided by the United States Embassy in Morocco, organized, Saturday at the Iklyle Cultural Center in Tangier, an awareness meeting on learning disabilities among children. ‘child.

Organized in partnership with the AFCD Foundation, this conference to raise awareness of learning disorders in children, particularly dyslexia, took place in the presence of speech therapists, community stakeholders and parents of children.

Laila Akdi, speech therapist and team leader of the Edyslexia Connect project, indicated that the meeting is part of awareness and training sessions on learning disabilities in children, particularly dyslexia, given its impact on the child’s school career.

“Our objective is to raise awareness among parents, as well as teaching staff, while presenting them with mechanisms that will allow children suffering from learning disabilities to benefit from their right to normal schooling,” she explained in a declaration to the MAP.

For her part, Chaimae Elkoufi, founding member of the Edyslexia Connect project, underlined the need to support children suffering from learning disabilities, also noting the absence of precise figures in this area, given the difficulty of identify the symptoms of these disorders.

“This meeting aims to help teaching staff identify the signs indicating a possibility of dyslexia in children, and to coordinate with associations working in this area to provide assistance and support, in order to reduce school dropout among children suffering from dyslexia. learning disabilities,” she added.

For her part, Zainab, mother of a child suffering from dyslexia, welcomed this beneficial initiative for mothers of dyslexic children, given the difficulties mothers encounter in understanding certain daily life behaviors of dyslexic children, and for support them in their educational journey.

The dyslexic child encounters various difficulties, including errors in identifying letters, difficulty using appropriate linguistic rules and difficulty acquiring vocabulary.
