The 10th day of the Super League smiled on the Vaudois clubs. Yverdon beat Lugano 2-0 on Sunday afternoon, with Lausanne-Sport winning by the same score against new bottom side Winterthur.

Yverdon thus ended a series of five matches without defeat for Lugano, which therefore leaves FC Zurich alone at the top of the standings. The main referee Désirée Grossenbacher knew how to take her responsibilities in the first match in the history of the Super League refereed by a 100% female quartet.

Ms. Grundbacher in fact awarded – judiciously – a penalty to Yverdon in stoppage time in the first half after consulting the VAR. After initially warning Baradji for a simulation, she finally sanctioned Mahou for his foul committed against the Yverdon midfielder.

It was Boris Cespedes who was responsible for converting the penalty in the 49th minute, wrong-footing Amir Saipi. The Luganais goalkeeper was deceived a second time in the 58th minute, after a disagreement with El Wafi whose chest pass turned into an autogoal on an action that was nevertheless harmless.

Without a solution on Sunday, Lugano therefore remains three points behind FC Zurich and two behind Servette FC, now 2nd. Yverdon, which extended its invincibility to three matches in a row, retains 8th place with a lead over its cantonal rival Lausanne-Sport.

Sanches decisive

A Lausanne-Sport which finally celebrated its first shutout of the season on Sunday at La Tuilière. The most permeable defense in this 2024/25 Super League with 19 goals conceded, Ludovic Magnin’s squad logically forced the decision with goals from Alvyn Sanches (8th) and Alban Adjini (23rd).

Sanchez was the big man of the match. The U21 international scored his fourth goal in this 2024/25 championship with a superb solo, started at midfield with a large bridge and concluded with an outside left foot. He was then at the origin of the 2-0, his opening finding Diabaté who immediately handed the leather to Ajdini.

Basel snatches the 3 points

The last match of this 10th day saw Basel win at the wire against St. Gallen at Parc Saint-Jacques (2-1). Trailing from the 7th minute, FCB turned the tide thanks to a double from Kevin Carlos. The ex-Yverdon player scored the winning goal in the 95th minute, allowing his team to climb to 5th place.
