Israel claims to have bombed Hezbollah ‘intelligence headquarters’ in Beirut

AA / Beirut / Zain Khalil

The Israeli army said on Sunday it had bombed Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters in Beirut, Lebanon’s capital, and claimed to have killed three of the group’s leaders in airstrikes.

The army added in a statement published on its account on the ‘arms in Beirut’.

The army claimed that its warplanes “killed Hajj Abbas Salama during an attack on the Tibnin region of southern Lebanon”, who, according to the same source, was a “prominent leader” of the southern front of the party.

The Israeli army claimed that Salama “led the fighting in the Bint Jbeil region (south) and played a role in implementing numerous terrorist plans against Israel.”

“The terrorist called Reda Abbas Awada, who was considered an expert in the field of wireless communications within Hezbollah, was also eliminated,” said the same source.

The army said it had killed “Ahmed Ali Hussein, who was a production team leader responsible for arming Hezbollah with strategic combat assets.”

until 09:15 GMT, the Lebanese side made no comment on what was published in the Israeli army’s statement.

On Saturday evening, Israeli military planes resumed their violent raids on the southern suburbs of Beirut, after a three-day break.

The official Lebanese news agency reported that the Israeli army launched a “very violent raid on Haret Hreik and the neighborhoods of Choueifat and Burj al-Barajneh” in the suburbs, following warnings issued to residents of these neighborhoods, saying that they were “close to Hezbollah installations and interests.”

As a reminder, Israel has launched a vast air campaign in Lebanon since the end of last month against what it claims are Hezbollah targets, killing more than 1,500 people and displacing more than 1.34 million others.

The cross-border war between the two sides had been continuing since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023.
