Sébastien Ogier goes off the road, Thierry Neuville 3rd (video)

It’s been a long time since we last saw Sébastien Ogier express his disappointment like this! Kneeling next to his Toyota, head in his hands, the Frenchman had obviously just taken very hard the crash he suffered barely 600 meters after the start of the penultimate special of the Central Europe rally.

No openers

This special stage was not able to accommodate the official team drivers, due to lack of time. Was the Frenchman too optimistic? Or simply surprised by a trap that could not have been informed to him? The fact remains that he committed a violent spin, ultimately ending up against an electrical pole which he knocked to the ground!

Around twenty points ahead for Neuville over Tanak

His last hopes of success were dashed there. As an immediate consequence, Ott Tanak will approach the last special stage of the rally with a lead of almost ten seconds over Elfyn Evans, while Thierry Neuville has moved up to 3rd place. So, if nothing changes at the end of this power stage, Ott Tanak will be the last driver to be able to prevent Thierry Neuville from being world champion at the end of the Japan rally which our compatriot will tackle with around twenty points ahead of his teammate; which is a rather comfortable situation. We will only be able to make precise accounts at the end of the power stage which will bring 5 to 1 point to the first five classified, and this “Super Sunday” which will bring between 7 and 1 to the first seven classified of the day .

Toyota loses big

Toyota loses big in the constructors’ championship following Sébastien Ogier’s exit from the road, even the (18) points from Saturday cannot be counted.
