A Chilean influencer, Marimar Perez, caused a real media storm in Japan. Controversy arose when she was filmed doing pull-ups on a torii, a symbolic gate to the country’s Shinto shrines.
This action, captured in a video posted on his social networks, deeply shocked the Japanese, who are sensitive to the respect of these places steeped in tradition. The video quickly attracted attention and caused an outcry among Internet users.
On Instagram, where Marimar Perez is followed by more than 140,000 people, the video generated an avalanche of criticism, which led the influencer to remove the publication. Faced with the magnitude of the reactions, she apologized, saying: “I did not know how important this place is to Japanese culture, and I regret what happened.”
This type of behavior has led Japanese authorities to take measures to protect their cultural sites. For example, the city of Kyoto has restricted access to certain districts in order to preserve respect for emblematic places such as the geisha district.
