Beach – Start of the Can today, in Egypt: Senegal, alone against all! – The Daily

The 2024 edition of the Caf beach tournament (October 19 to 26) will kick off today, Saturday. The competition is hosted by the city of Hurghada, Egypt. On the eve of the start of hostilities, the host country is ready to welcome Africa, and the 8 African nations divided into two groups of four have the same objective: the final coronation to dethrone Senegal. The opening match will pit Egypt, the host country, against Ghana. It will be this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. GMT. But first, still in Group A, Morocco and Tanzania meet at 12 p.m. GMT. So everything is ready for the kick-off of the African beach football party in the impressive coastal city of Hurghada.
Reigning champion and most successful nation with 7 coronations including four consecutive, Senegal will be the team to beat. The Lions are logically the big favorites for this edition.
Housed in Group B, the Lions of the Beach will be there with Mozambique, finalist in the penultimate edition (2021), Malawi, author of its second participation, and Mauritania, another neophyte to the competition.
Precisely, the Mourabitounes will be the first opponents of the Lions, Sunday at 12 p.m. Gmt. A highly anticipated reunion, especially after the latest incidents which marred the friendly meeting between the two teams in Nouakchott. The next day (10:30 a.m. GMT), Ngalla Sylla’s men will play Malawi, before finishing on Tuesday (1:30 p.m.) with Mozambique.
The semi-finals will be played on October 24. Ditto for the fifth and sixth place classification matches. The third place match will be played on October 26, just before the grand final scheduled for the same day.
Note that the two best teams in the tournament will qualify for the 2025 Beach Soccer World Cup which will take place in Seychelles. This is the first time that Africa will host a competition of this magnitude in beach football. Which gives the continent three places at this world beach soccer event.
