Bassirou Diomaye Faye wants to be firm on the suspension of mining activities

The President of the Republic of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, asked, Friday, the administrative authorities and the defense and security forces of the Kédougou region (south-east), to firmly apply the suspension of mining activities over a radius of 500 meters around Falémé.

President Faye spoke in the village of Sansamba in the Saraya department to note the effective implementation of the decree prohibiting mining activities on the Falémé as well as clandestine gold panning operations throughout the Kédougou region.

“We had to come and see first-hand the level of application of the decree and further instruct the decentralized authorities and the defense and security forces to ensure that this measure is correctly applied over the duration which is planned, namely by to June 2027,” said the head of state.

“It takes firmness to enforce the decree over time and under the leadership of Madam Governor the demarcations are made,” said Mr. Faye

The President of the Republic Bassirou Diomaye Faye who is traveling in the Kédougou region, was in the company of the governor of the region, Mariama Traoré, the prefect of the department of Saraya, Babacar Diagne and the defense and security forces .

A consultation and dialogue framework for the depollution of the Falémé, the main tributary of the Senegal River, which constitutes the natural border between Senegal and Mali, was set up on Wednesday August 7, 2024, in Kidira, in the Tambacounda region. (East).
