A police officer was slightly injured by bullets Friday evening in Saint-Herblain (Loire-Atlantique), France Bleu Loire Océan learned from the firefighters.

The events took place near around 9:20 p.m. Residents called the police, claiming to have seen a man walking his dog with a weapon in his hands, says a police source. When the police intervened, the 72-year-old man sent his dog in their direction. The police responded by shooting the animal, which died instantly.

It was at that moment that the septuagenarian retreated into his caravan and shot the police. One of them, aged 25, received several bullets, in the pelvis and lower part of the body. Slightly injured, the agent was transported to Nantes University Hospital. His vital prognosis is not in jeopardy. The suspect was finally brought under control around 11 p.m. Wounded in the abdomen and leg, he was transported in serious condition to Nantes hospital, firefighters told France Bleu Loire Océan.

On X, the Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau wishes “a speedy recovery to the injured police officer”. He greets “his courage as well as that of all those who were able to allow this arrest”.
