War in the Middle East: a drone was launched towards the residence of Binyamin Netanyahu

UA drone was launched towards the private residence of Binyamin Netanyahu in Caesarea, the Israeli Prime Minister’s office said on Saturday, after the army announced that a drone from Lebanon had hit a “structure” in this coastal city from central Israel.

“A drone was launched towards the Prime Minister’s house in Caesarea. The Prime Minister and his wife were not there and the incident caused no casualties,” Mr. Netanyahu’s services said in a statement. It was unclear whether the residence was the “structure” the military previously referred to.

It was not clear whether the residence was the “structure in the Caesarea area” hit by a drone identified as coming from Lebanon that the military had mentioned earlier in the morning.

According to the military, the attack did not cause any injuries and two other drones were intercepted.

Since Saturday morning, northern Israel has been the target of a barrage of projectiles launched from Lebanon and warning sirens have been activated in several towns.

An Israeli strike in Lebanon

In Lebanon, two people were killed in an Israeli strike which targeted for the first time since the start of the war between Israel and Hezbollah the highway linking Beirut to the north of the country, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.

Lebanese Hezbollah has been launching rockets and drones into northern Israel for a year in support of Palestinian Hamas, which carried out the unprecedented attack of October 7, 2023 against southern Israel from Gaza.

The Islamist movement thus claimed responsibility on Friday for attacks on the cities of Safed and Haifa (north) and on a military base in the center of the country.

After a year of border exchanges of fire between the army and the pro-Iranian formation, Israel has been carrying out land operations in the border regions of southern Lebanon since the end of September, supported by a campaign of airstrikes.
