Pfas: a new zone exceeds the alert threshold

Cth Thursday, The evening reported that the Walloon Minister of Health, Yves Coppieters (Les Engagés), had presented the preliminary results of environmental analyzes on the presence of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA, the smallest of the Pfas) in distribution water.

What did we learn there? That TFA is omnipresent in tap water. It was detected in 598 areas out of 642. In thirteen areas, concentrations exceed the guideline value of 2.2 micrograms per liter (µg/l) that the CSI has proposed and which is based on the work of the RVIM, l Royal Netherlands Institute for Public Health and the Environment.

RTBF informs us this Friday that a 14e zone exceeds this alert threshold, that of Ciney, in this case. The population has not yet been informed.

Ciney carried out its own analyzes at three locations, one of which is above the guideline value. The two other samples also showed traces of TFA, but lower than the guideline value.
