Stan Wawrinka (ATP 217) roars again! For the first time in more than thirteen months, the Vaudois won two matches in a row on the Circuit. He qualified for the quarter-finals of the ATP 250 in Stockholm.

Victorious 6-4 3-6 7-5 over the Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (ATP 64) after 2h13 of match, the man with three Grand Slam titles will face Friday the world no. 7 and seeded no. 1 in the table Andrey Rublev. He thus joins Dominic Stricker among those qualified for the quarter-finals the week when Swiss tennis no longer has any representative in the top 100 of the ATP and WTA.

Facing Davidovich-Fokina, whom he met for the first time, Stan Wawrinka had the immense merit of not giving up in a third set that he had started in the worst possible way. He, in fact, lost his commitment from the start before saving two double break points which would have allowed his opponent to lead 3-0 in service to follow. The Vaudois came back to 2-2 before conceding the break again. Trailing 4-2, he found the resources to turn the situation around when all seemed lost.

With 31 winning shots against 39 unforced errors, Stan Wawrinka probably did not deliver the match of his life. But he won it thanks to his efficiency on break points in his favor. He simply won the four he played to sign a priceless success. He demonstrates that the weight of his 39 years does not yet prevent him from shining on a tennis court, undoubtedly where his kingdom still lies.
