The mother of the cyclist killed by a motorist in testifies: “No mitigating circumstances”

RMC TESTIMONY. A 27-year-old cyclist died after being run over by a motorist on Tuesday evening in , following an altercation. If the driver of the vehicle pleads the accident, the cyclist’s relatives assure that it was intentional.

An investigation was opened after the death of a 27-year-old cyclist, run over by a car in Paris. The events took place late Tuesday afternoon, after a dispute with the driver of the vehicle according to the Paris prosecutor’s office.

The 52-year-old motorist was arrested on site. He is suspected of intentionally driving over the victim. A murder investigation was opened but in police custody on Wednesday, the driver pleaded guilty to the fatal accident according to information from BFMTV.

For the victim’s relatives, who agreed to testify at the RMC microphone, the driver hit her intentionally. Sadness, a feeling of injustice and anger. In a serious tone, Nathalie opens up.

“We cannot plead not guilty. There are no mitigating circumstances,” she points out.

For Paul’s mother, there is no doubt it is not an accident. According to her, the driver deliberately drove into her son. “When a vehicle finds itself faced with a pedestrian or a cyclist who does not have a shell around him, there is a real desire, more than to harm, but to kill. They are not the same weapons. So this gentleman killed with his weapon which is his car,” she says.

Motorist’s custody extended

And it is this voluntary character that Nathalie and her family hope to have recognized by the courts. An essential step to mourning according to Antoine, the victim’s brother. “There is someone in a cell who crushed a 27-year-old and a life,” he denounces.

He tells what he knows about the scene which allegedly took place this Tuesday evening. “The little we know is that he was leaving work and cycling home. There is a car that cut him off on the cycle path. He would have run over his foot. He allegedly banged on the hood of the car. Then there was a verbal altercation. My brother would have left on his bike and this person would have deliberately rushed, run over him, and he would have died instantly,” he explains.

No one deserves that, but least of all him, Antoine saddens. He describes his brother as a deeply caring person.

“She was a gentle, sensitive person, always there for others. He took the life of a young man who was full of ambitions, who was going to the United States to study, who had just bought an apartment in Paris…”, he says.

Like a promise, Antoine concludes: “For the memory of my brother, we will fight for as long as it takes.” The suspect’s custody was extended by 24 hours this Wednesday evening. Other hearings must take place this Thursday before his probable referral to an investigating judge.
