Harris makes big promises, Trump poses as “father of in vitro fertilization”

20 days before the American presidential election, Kamala Harris affirmed on Wednesday that her presidency would not be “a continuation” of that of Joe Biden. This statement was made during an interview on Fox News, a channel primarily watched by a conservative electorate.

In this interview, the Democratic candidate assured that she would bring “her experience, her professional experiences and new ideas”, while positioning herself as a “new generation of leaders” on the eve of her 60th birthday.

An attempt to distinguish itself from Joe Biden

The Democratic candidate is doing everything she can to distinguish herself from the current president, without denying her record. A real political balancing act. During the interview, Kamala Harris faced difficult questions, notably on immigration and the possible cognitive degradation of Joe Biden, a subject on which she dodged a direct answer. She also attacked Donald Trump, accusing him of “belittling” Americans and of not accepting criticism without threatening his detractors.

This is not the first time that the candidate has sought to address Republicans. At a rally in Pennsylvania, she quoted Gen. Mark Milley, a former military official under Donald Trump, who described the former president as “fascist through and through.” Kamala Harris reiterated her criticisms by calling him “unbalanced”. She also opened the door to Republican voters by telling them that, despite their previous votes, “there is a place for you in this campaign.”

Donald Trump seeks to seduce women

For his part, Donald Trump addressed a female audience by presenting himself as the “father of in vitro fertilization”, asserting that Republicans had been more active in this area, without however developing this idea. This attempt comes as he is left behind by Kamala Harris in polls among the female electorate, particularly on the sensitive issue of the right to abortion.

Donald Trump oscillates between boasting about having appointed the Supreme Court justices who allowed the reversal of federal protection of the right to abortion in 2022, and avoiding advocating a total ban on abortion, an unpopular position nationally.

Still neck and neck in the polls

Kamala Harris called his statements on in vitro fertilization “utterly bizarre” and called on him to “take responsibility for the fact that one in three women in America live in a state where Trump has banned abortion “. Donald Trump was later to answer questions from Latino voters during an event organized by the audiovisual group Univision in Miami.

Polls show that the two candidates are neck and neck, with Donald Trump having caught up with Kamala Harris in certain key states, particularly in the north of the country. This is also where the Democratic candidate is focusing her efforts, with visits to Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin. However, the final result could be decided in other decisive states, such as Georgia.
