Morocco and FAO sign several agreements

Several projects and programs were signed, Wednesday in Rabat, between the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and this on the sidelines of the celebration of the 44th edition of World Food Day.

Thus, the first technical cooperation program concerns support for the formulation of a road map for the sustainable development of livestock breeding and the development of a new law on livestock breeding in Morocco.

The second technical cooperation program concerns the modernization of the use and management of agricultural statistics for more informed decisions in Morocco.

Concerning the third project, it aims to prevent and mitigate the impact of transboundary zoonoses with pandemic potential through the IT modernization of the online platforms of the FAO global information system on animal diseases and its mobile application “Event Mobile Application”.

The fourth project concerns the adoption of the progressive management approach to biosecurity in terrestrial animals.

Furthermore, a partnership agreement was also concluded between the ministry and the Interprofessional Federation of the Poultry Sector to support rural women affected by the Al Haouz earthquake relating to the construction and equipment of three poultry production units. eggs from free-range chickens for the benefit of three women’s cooperatives.

The objective of this agreement is to support rural women’s cooperatives affected by the Al Haouz earthquake by providing them with essential resources to revive their poultry production activity.

Chaired by the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Mohammed Sadiki, accompanied by the FAO representative in Morocco, Jean Senahoun, this year’s celebration was held under the theme “the right to food for a better life and a better future”. The opening session was followed by the holding of a scientific seminar, marked by the presentation of the ministry of the efforts deployed within the framework of the Generation Green strategy, relating in particular to the management of irrigation water, conservation genetic resources, research in food technologies, improvement of food quality, reduction of post-harvest losses, as well as the digitalization of access to information. Ambassadors, representatives of international organizations, presidents of agricultural inter-professional associations, presidents of chambers of agriculture, as well as a large delegation of ministry officials took part in this celebration.
