Anyone who has already seen an iPad mini 2021 will immediately find their bearings. The format of the touchscreen tablet remains strictly identical, with an 8.3-inch screen with a definition of 2,266 x 1,488 pixels at 326 ppi. Apple did not take advantage of this new generation to change screen technology. We remain on an LED panel, and OLED remains the prerogative of the iPad Pro M4 released in May 2024.
Four colors are still offered with purple, space gray, the unmistakable Starlight and a little new one, blue, instead of the pink of the previous generation. The Touch ID sensor is still there, located on the power and sleep button.
As for the dimensions, again nothing new under the sun with a thickness of 6.3 mm and a weight of 297 grams for the Wi-Fi + Cellular version. The device will therefore remain the most practical for watching videos or browsing the web on the sofa, unlike iPads over 11 inches, which are more massive and more difficult to hold at arm’s length after several tens of minutes.
There is nevertheless a small modification to note: the front camera is now on the right edge in portrait mode, and will be perfectly centered during a video taken with the tablet horizontally. The iPad mini was the last iPad not to have adopted this new sensor placement, things are now in order.
