19 stadium bans and 16 complaints, OL acts after

OL announced that it had issued 19 commercial stadium bans following the incidents after the match against . The club also filed 16 complaints.

Called to react after the deplorable events following the OL – Nantes match (2-0), Olympique Lyonnais took the time before communicating on the actions put in place. He finally did so on Tuesday, October 15, announcing 19 commercial stadium bans (ICS) ranging from 3 to 18 months.

The reasons given are as follows: hiding the face, carrying a weapon and aggravated intentional violence. To this assessment, we must add the 16 complaints filed by the club for three distinct reasons: introduction of a weapon into a sports venue, voluntary violence in a meeting or with premeditation and voluntary violence with other aggravating circumstances. This last point concerns, for example, the fact of hiding one’s head.

In the text published ten days after the events, the Rhone institution explains that the ICS were pronounced against “of individuals who participated in the brawl on both sides.“It also specifies that”the first elements indicate that people outside the supporter groups may have increased the provocations, particularly on social networks and the stadium square, before and during the match, and would have contributed to escalating the situation.

Regretting the “recovery attempts of all kinds“, l’OL “is continuing its identification work and hopes to be able to impose other sanctions and submit other complaints in the coming days.“The club also reminds that it”has always advocated for strong individual sanctions”without considering membership in a supporters association, not wanting “polarize the debate.

Qualifying as “serious and unacceptable“the incidents which spoiled the victory of Peter’s men SageOlympique Lyonnais repeats that it “has only a limited legal arsenal in the fight against abuses of this type, and that it absolutely needs the support of public authorities in this fight.” A speech that he regularly gives after events like those of October 6.

Indeed, the most effective way to punish troublemakers is to force them to report to the police station during meetings. But for this, they must be served with an administrative and judicial ban from the stadium, which can only be decided by the prefects or the courts.

From now on, the most important thing is above all to move towards appeasement between the collectives of fans, and OL assures “work to find solutions” in this sense. Let us also emphasize that racism is not mentioned in this document. On this subject, Laurent Prud’homme will participate this Wednesday in a round table at city hall.
