Drowning of an 89-year-old man in a swimming pool

An 89-year-old man drowned in a residential swimming pool Monday afternoon, according to information from the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM).

The events took place around 2:10 p.m. A call was made to 911 concerning a person who appeared inert in an indoor swimming pool in an apartment building located on Norwalk Road, near Shalom Avenue, in the area of Côte-Saint-Luc, in Montreal.

When the police arrived on the scene, they began resuscitation maneuvers before the arrival of paramedics, who then pursued them. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“According to initial information, the man may have felt unwell while he was swimming,” indicates Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the SPVM.

The scene was protected to allow investigators, who were still on site around 4:30 p.m., to analyze it.

“There is no criminal element in this event,” adds Caroline Chèvrefils. The investigation file was transferred to the coroner’s office.
