For the first time, Apple is allowing its users to modify, or even completely change, their iCloud email address if they wish. This new feature is available through iOS 18.1.

With iOS 18.1, expected soon on a large scale, Apple allows users to change the main email address of their Apple account, directly from the Settings application, but also to change their iCloud email address altogether. they want it. A first, at least when it comes to iCloud.
Your iCloud email address is no longer set in stone
As stated 9to5Macthis new feature is actually not entirely new in terms of the main email address of the Apple account. And for good reason, the latter could already be modified, but on condition of removing any other email addresses attached to the account.
There was also no direct function allowing easy modification from the iOS Settings.
Apple is therefore banking on simplification in this regard, but also on better accessibility of these modifications, by making them available in three clicks via the tab containing your name (displayed first when opening the Settings application), then under “Connection and security”. When you have iOS 18.1 (currently in beta), a “Change Email Address” button will be displayed there. As for changing iCloud email, it will be available in the same place.
Apple explains, on the other hand (and this actually seems quite logical) that you will no longer receive emails from your old @iCloud.com or @me.com address once it has been changed. It will also no longer be available for FaceTime and iMessage.
