The CISSS de Lanaudière announced the deployment of a new immunization program against respiratory syncytial virus infections in newborns and babies.

This immunization consists of the administration of a preventive treatment composed of antibodies already produced to protect the newborn or baby during the virus season (fall-winter). It comes in the form of a single injection.

The program begins this month for newborns and babies who have vulnerable conditions that could lead to complications from the disease.

These vulnerable conditions include premature babies, Down syndrome and chronic lung disease.

All babies born after April 2, 2024 will then be able to have access to treatment from November 4.

Treatment is offered free of charge in hospitals, local service points (PSL), CLSCs and at the Lanaudière birth center by appointment only.

Parents who wish to make an appointment for their child can do so by calling 450 7555 -3737 Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
