Several tens of thousands of people flocked to Rabat on Sunday to mark the first anniversary of the start of the war in Gaza and show their support for the Palestinian people, calling for a break in relations between Rabat and Israel.

“Resistance does not die”, “The people want the end of normalization”, protesters chanted outside Parliament in the center of the capital while signs proclaimed: “We do not recognize Israel.”

The march was held on the eve of the first commemoration of the attack by Palestinian Hamas which triggered Israel’s response, at the call of the National Action Group for Palestine, bringing together left-wing groups and the Party Islamist of justice and development.

Among numerous Palestinian and Lebanese flags, some portraits of the leaders of Hamas and Hezbollah were brandished, including those of Ismaïl Haniyé and Hassan Nasrallah, respectively killed in July and September in strikes attributed to or claimed by Israel.

Since the start of the war in Gaza, several large-scale demonstrations have taken place in Morocco to demand an end to the normalization of relations with Israel, a process which until then met with only limited opposition.

The kingdom officially called “to an immediate, global and lasting end to the Israeli war on Gaza”, without calling into question standardization.

The Hamas attack on Israeli soil resulted in the deaths of 1,205 people, according to an AFP count based on official Israeli figures, including hostages who died or were killed in captivity in the Palestinian territory.

During Israel’s ongoing offensive, at least 41,870 Palestinians were killed in Gaza, the majority civilians, according to figures from the Hamas government’s Health Ministry deemed reliable by the UN. .
