“A trial to build jurisprudence on artificial intelligence”

FIGAROVOX/CHRONICLE – In the United States, a man is accused of having deposited hundreds of songs created by artificial intelligence on streaming platforms, then of having created fake accounts responsible for listening to them on repeat, in order to make money from them. For our columnist, this court decision could set a precedent.

A few days ago, Michael Smith, an American from the state of North Carolina, was found guilty of fraud by using AI-embedded bots to massively stream his own music, which was also generated by AI. And thus make money in a roundabout way. This – good – news indicates a gradual change in the construction of American regulation in a country of common law where case law implicitly constructs the law. This verdict will clearly be an example for future cases and a sort of guide for current and future uses of generative AIs… and technologies embedding AI, in general.
