Charleroi falls into Dender’s trap and bows

This Saturday, Charleroi traveled to Dender to try to climb to 2nd place in the championship. A tricky move for the Carolos, and they actually fell right into it! Rik De Mil’s men lost with a score of 1-0.

In the 13th minute, a magnificent free kick from Lennard Hens allowed Dender to take the lead, with a ball placed in the top corner. The goal was ultimately awarded as an own goal for the Zèbres goalkeeper, Mohamed Koné. The action stemmed from a bad pass from Zorgan, which put Petris in difficulty and forced him to commit a foul to prevent a big chance.

Charleroi tried to react, but Dender remained solid defensively. The promoted club did not allow the Carolos to create real clear chances. Zorgue notably tried his luck by hitting on goal, Heymans also tried, but in vain.

Note that Perfect Guiagon was replaced due to injury in the 42nd minute by Isaac Mbenza.

Charleroi still can’t do it

The second half begins with Dender taking more initiative.

Charleroi then begins to appear more dangerous, in particular with Kyei who arms a cross shot well captured by Verrips. Rik De Mil’s players lack power in the last gesture. Verrips catches many balls quite easily. It’s difficult for De Mil to do anything else. His team dominates, but struggles to create real chances against Dender’s compact 5-3-2.

Charleroi seems to lack the creativity to really worry Vincent Euvrard’s men. A difficult situation for Charleroi to manage, facing a team that defends solidly.

The Carolos therefore ultimately never managed to find the fault.

In the rankings, Dender climbs to 5th place after his solid defensive performance. For its part, Charleroi is in 8th place.
