“And solar disk, bright optimistic and focused on love.” This is what Chris Martin, singer and soul of Coldplay, promised when teasing last June his group’s new album which will be released this Friday, October 4 in physical format and on all platforms. Listening to the ten tracks from “Moon Music” confirms his point. But there’s even better. Presented as the sequel to “Music Of The Sphères”, released in 2021, “Moon Music” is much more successful and seduces as much by its pop virtues as by its desire to explore new territories.

Cinematic atmospheres

Coldplay’s tenth album since the English group’s debut in 2006, “New Moon” was recorded at the Punta Paloma studio in Tarifa, Spain. It opens like a credits with the titular track and its cinematographic atmospheres. First surprise, Coldplay called on melodic electronica producer John Hopkins to add ambient colors to this soaring piece. Follows Feelslikei’mfallinginlovea pop love song designed to be performed in chorus in stadiums with its « la la la » easily remembered on the chorus. No wonder it was chosen as the first single.

Luxury guests

Also released as a single last AugustWe Pray risks surprising the most conventional fans because Coldplay is stepping out of their comfort zone. Infra-bass, layers of keyboards, filters in the voices… This song, also equipped with an unstoppable chorus, is boosted by four guests who bring their signature: the London rapper Little Simz, the Arab pop star Ekyanna, the Argentinian singer Tini and Nigerian singer Burna Boy. Beautiful people.

Nile Rodgers’ guitar

With Jupiterwe stay in the stars and the universalist themes already explored on “Music Of The Sphères”. Here we find a more classic Coldplay with an introduction in acoustic guitar/vocals and strings which gradually impose themselves. Good Feelings benefits from the participation of Nile Rodgers, from the group Chic, who sublimates with his funky touch this future hit bearing his name magnificently.

Drawn with the rainbow emoji, Rainbow (we’ll call it that) is another piece that looks like an imaginary soundtrack, just like One Worldthe closing track (the longest with its six minutes and forty-seven seconds) where, between a line of keyboards and Chris Martin’s hippie chorus, we hear bird chirps. So peaceful…

CDs made from recyclable materials

We will also cite two very strong pieces. This is the new single All My Loveballad with piano, tremolo in the voice, nice electric guitar solo… in short everything for you to activate the “ flashlight » from your smartphone in concert. Also unifying, YAY (pour I’Am a Moutain), is a very effective refrain to be placed somewhere between Clocks, Viva La Vida and other The Scientist.

Always very concerned about the environment, and therefore marketing, Coldpay also communicates that the physical format of “New Moon” is manufactured for the first time in EcoCD format, created from 90% recycled polycarbonate and coming from waste materials recyclable. Normal, the haters will no doubt say, “for a group who also recycles his music “. Except that here, Coldplay new things while excelling in their fundamentals.
