IN PICTURES | Major fire in a church in Trois-Rivières

A fire broke out Thursday afternoon at the Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Allégresses church, in Trois-Rivières.

One of the two bell towers collapsed during this fire, which quickly spread and caused major damage to the structure.

Images captured by TVA Nouvelles show a large plume of smoke escaping from the church.

Numerous wines also litter the ground at the foot of this place of worship of Catholic tradition which dates from 1914.

The ladder truck from the City of Trois-Rivières Fire Safety Department was requested on site, at the corner of Boulevard du Saint-Maurice and Rue Saint-François-Xavier.



Bécancour firefighters were also called for reinforcements.

The police have been on site since 2 p.m. to coordinate traffic on this very busy artery in downtown Trois-Rivières.
