Three important points: relive Bruges’ victory against Sturm Graz in the Champions League

Club Bruges won their first points in the Champions League by winning 0-1 on the pitch at Sturm Graz for the second day of the league phase on Wednesday in Austria. Christos Tzolis scored the winning goal in the first period.

With Ferran Jutgla in place of Gustaf Nilsson, absent from the scoresheet, and Ardon Jashari preferred to Hugo Vetlesen, Bruges took the game on their own but without managing to cause danger. The Club nevertheless took advantage of its strong moment to open the scoring with a stroke of genius from Tzolis. The Greek winger received the ball on the left flank from where he fired a curling shot which ended up hitting the post (23rd, 0-1).

A goal which somewhat awakened Sturm Graz, forced to play in Klagenfurt, the fault of a non-compliant stadium. Dimitri Lavallée’s club (ex-Standard, Saint-Trond and Mechelen), suspended for this match, however, did not manage to bring Simon Mignolet into play. Without dominating their opponent, the Belgian champions controlled the start of the second half while Sturm Graz tried to attack Mignolet’s goal, but without success.

On the contrary, Bruges still created the best opportunities with a cross shot from Michal Skoras (83rd) while Roméo Vermant, alone in the big rectangle, made the wrong choice (89th). A success which allows the Club to pocket its first victory in C1 this season after its inaugural defeat against Dortmund (0-3) and to move up to 21st place in the standings. The next meeting for Bruges is scheduled for Tuesday October 22 with a trip to AC Milan (6:45 p.m.).
